Small and slender species with round belly and 5-8 unkeeled plate-like scutes before pelvic base; Dorsal fin (12-18 soft rays) is placed at the mid point of the body and anal fin (16-27 soft rays) well behind dorsal fin base; Body colour is back fleshy yellow; a faintly dark midlateral line, and a tapering elongate silver area from pectoral fin base to anus; a series of black spots at anal fin base and three fine black lines on caudal peduncle; Caudal fin faint yellow at base, outer rays clear, inner rays lined or dotted with black.
