Description :

The body is pinkish in colour and silvery below. Pectoral fins are moderately long, reaching to or just behind anus. Pelvic fins are also long, reaching to or just beyond level of origin of anal fin. Scale rows on the body are below lateral line upward-curved anteriorly.

Maximum length: 30.5 cm (TL), common length: 18-25 cm (TL)

Diet

Feeds mainly on crustaceans, cephalopods (Loligo), small fishes and polychaetes.

Utilization

Marketed mainly fresh, but also frozen, steamed, dried-salted, dry-smoked, fermented or made into fish balls and fish meal. It is also used for preparation of surimi.
