It inhabits running waters and found in deeper part of large streams below the ghats. It is characterised by moderately deep body without any bands or spots on body; ventral and caudal fins orange in colour; two pairs of barbels; dorsal fin rays weak, articulated, 89 branched rays; complete lateral line having 2632 scales; caudal fin tipped black.
