Diet
Juveniles feed on diatoms, cladocerans, ostracods; Adult macro plankton (shrimp and fish larvae)
Utilization
Marketed fresh, dried, dry-salted and frozen, fried in oil and consumed generally. It is the most common fish species consumed by Goans. The average catch of Indian mackerel along Goa is about 13449 tonnes during 2000-2012. The species contributes to about 40-50% of the total gross value of marine fish landings in Goa both at landing and retail level.
