Description :

It inhabits running waters and found in deeper part of large streams below the ghats. It is characterised by moderately deep body without any bands or spots on body; ventral and caudal fins orange in colour; two pairs of barbels; dorsal fin rays weak, articulated, 8–9 branched rays; complete lateral line having 26–32 scales; caudal fin tipped black.

Feeds on debris, leaf litter and other plant matter; column and bottom feeder

It is popular as an aquarium fish as well as consumed locally in fresh form
